Operation Stand Down, April 22, 2023@ IUN Hygiene Clinic
Dr. Daniel Fridh, LaPorte member of the Northwest Indiana Dental Society, noticed a trend of neglected mouths among his ex-military patients, he knew something had to be done.
A former military man himself who served in the Air Force for three years, and even conducted his dental residency there, he understood what military men and women went through.
In 2012 Dr. Fridh helped launch Operation Stand Down. This program was designed to offer veterans a free dental examination and free or reduced follow up services. The initial program involved the participation of 22 volunteer dentists, and served 90 veterans for a total of $150,000 worth of services.
We will host Operation Stand Down for Veterans living in Lake, Porter and LaPorte Indiana counties on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 8am to 12pm at the IUN Hygiene Clinic. We have students, faculty and local dentists that are volunteering to do patient exams and x-rays at no charge to the Veterans that do not currently have dental coverage. The Veterans will then be assigned to a dentist local to them for follow up, basic dental care. We want to give the Veterans a dental home.
If you, a NIDS member dentist, are interested in taking on a new patient Veteran from this event, please reach out to our NIDS office at 219-769-3504. We appreciate their service and we also appreciate you, the members, for your help in making this event possible.
